Ancient Egyptian Writing
The Ancient Egyptians were proficient at agriculture, and consequently they had plenty of time to develop other technology. It is believed that hieroglyphs are the oldest surviving writing ever and remains one of the most sophisticated scripts. Overtime, they developed two more scripts and had a complex way of recording their stories. Throughout their empire, they developed numerous different characters and words and developed a number system and even a grammar system. The language was so sophisticated that it wasn’t cracked until Napoleon discovered the Rosetta Stone in 1799 and Jean-Francois Champollion cracked the hieroglyphs. Through this part of the presentation, we will look at the written scripts and how they influenced the Ancient Egyptian culture.
