The Functions of Ancient Egyptian Writing.
In Ancient Egypt, writing had numerous different functions. Scribes had a very busy life, as there were many jobs to do that were based around writing. Ancient Egyptians believed in organisation, so they recorded documents like food stocks, court events, legal documents, tax records and even magical remedies. Another purpose of writing was to record the Ancient Egyptian’s history. This ranged from recording the daily life of the elite, to larger scale events such as battles. Religious writing was also very common, which included writing stories about the Gods and myths/stories to explain the ‘unexplainable.’ Finally, writing was used to tell tales about artefacts and people, which we see in tombs, and on artefacts like pots etc. Ancient Egyptians used writing for many purposes.
